FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Does cleaning a carpet make it get dirty faster?

Carpets get dirty from foot traffic, spills, dust, etc.  If cleaning detergents are not rinsed out they can lead to faster soiling. That is why it is so important to be sure the last step used in cleaning is a rinsing step. This is true even if you are using a spotter at home. In order for your carpet to have the same level of dirt repellency it must be thoroughly rinsed to insure no sticky residues are left behind. At Universal we not only rinse the fiber but we also apply a neutralizing agent to insure soft texture.

It is very important when choosing a carpet cleaning company to get a reputable company who has years of experience so your carpet will not be damaged by any homemade chemicals. Universal uses only the highest grade friable (that do not leave a dirt-attracting residue) chemicals and a process that includes rinsing as a last step.

How often should I clean my carpet?

When it’s dirty!  Actually, it depends on the amount of foot traffic, spills, and debris. Now that we have homes that seal better than ever before, it has become very important to keep the bacteria count found in carpet and upholstery at a safe level. Many studies indicate that deep regular cleaning is recommended periodically at intervals not to exceed 18 months - most recommend 6-12 months for best indoor air quality.  The average homeowner cleans their carpet every 10-14 months, or approximately once per year.  Lighter colored carpets tend to show soil more quickly and usually need to be cleaned every 6-9 months or approximately twice a year.
