Why should I have my upholstered furniture professionally cleaned?
+In carpeted homes, up to 80% of the dust and dirt brought into the home can settle into upholstered furniture and carpet. Having upholstered furniture professionally cleaned on a regular basis has two important benefits.
• Our professional cleaning processes help prevent damage to upholstery fabric by removing tiny soil particles that, when left unattended, slowly scratch, abrade, and permanently change the appearance of your upholstered furniture.
• Those tiny soil particles are allergens to many people and have an impact on indoor air quality. Having dirt, dust mites, and other pollutants professionally removed from your upholstered furniture helps to minimize allergic reactions, not to mention odors.
-
Can you treat odors on my furniture?
+Yes. After cleaning, we can apply a deodorizer to your furniture that will neutralize odors, eliminate them at their source, and leave behind a fresh, clean scent.
-
How does Universal Carpet Systems clean upholstered furniture?
+We use our powerful hot water extraction cleaning process whenever possible, because it provides the deepest cleaning of all the possible methods. Some fabrics may require a more delicate cleaning system. In this case, we will help you make a decision that best suits your needs and your furniture.
-
How long will it take my furniture to dry?
+Your specific upholstery fabric will determine which cleaning method we use. While the cleaning method along with optional protector application determines the drying time, typical dry time ranges from 1-6 hours.
-
How often do manufacturers recommend professional cleaning?
+Manufacturers recommend having upholstered furniture professionally cleaned every 12-24 months depending on use.
-
Should I have protector applied to my furniture?
+Protector is typically applied to fabrics when they are new, but over time and through daily use, this original protector breaks down. If you want your upholstered furniture to clean up well and last longer, we highly recommend a protector.
-
The tag on my furniture recommends a dry cleaning method. Can Universal Carpet Systems clean it?
+Yes, we can. We’ll test your fabric to determine which cleaning method will be the safest and most effective. That tag, or “Manufacturer Liability Code,” is required to recommend “a” cleaning method even though it may not be the most effective method for removing soil.
-
What does professional cleaning do to the protective coating I purchased with my upholstered furniture?
+While professional cleaning may impact the protective coating on your furniture, the dry soils that accumulate on it over time — along with the strain of daily living cause this coating to deteriorate. To keep your valuable upholstered furniture protected from the damage of dry soil, we can re-apply this coating following cleaning.
-
What is protector and how does it work?
+Protector is a spray we can apply to your furniture after cleaning. It creates an invisible barrier around fibers that improves their resistance to dry soil, water-based stains, and wear and tear from everyday use. Since dry soils cause damage and shorten the life of fabrics, protector ensures that fabrics are not permanently destroyed and continue to look great year after year.
-
Which cleaning method is best for my furniture?
+Manufacturers are required to recommend the safest cleaning method on a tag on the deck of your furniture, but this method may not be the most effective. We will test your fabric to determine which cleaning method will be the safest and most effective.

Why not wash my cushion covers in the washing machine? Do they really need professional cleaning?
+Your cushion covers should never be washed in a washing machine. This will cause fading, shrinkage, and fabric deterioration. We can provide deep cleaning to upholstered cushions without causing damage.
